Terms

This is an English translation, provided for convenience. The Portuguese version prevails.

Last updated: September 2026

These terms apply to copywriting, localisation and related writing work I do for you. "I" and "me" means Svetlana Arnaudova (details in the [Legal Notice](/legal-notice/)). "You" means the client. Where your written quote says something different from these terms, the quote wins. Some sections apply only to business clients, and some only to consumers (people buying for purposes outside their trade or profession). I’ve marked which is which. Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer law.

1. Scope and quotes

Every project starts with a written quote. It sets out the deliverables, languages/markets, word counts or page counts where relevant, the timeline and the price. That’s the scope. Work outside it is quoted separately before I start it.

A quote is valid for 30 days. We have an agreement once you accept the quote in writing (email is fine) and, where a deposit applies, pay it.

Prices on the website are "from" prices for guidance. The quote is what counts.

2. Payment

  • 50% deposit before I start, balance on delivery of the final copy.
  • Invoices are due within 14 days.
  • For business clients, late payments may bear interest at the statutory commercial rate.
  • I can pause work while an invoice is overdue. Deadlines move by the same amount of time.

3. Revisions

Each deliverable includes 2 rounds of revisions. A round means you send me your combined feedback on a draft and I rework it.

A revision refines what we agreed: tone, wording, length, emphasis, facts you’ve corrected.

A new direction changes what we agreed: a different audience, positioning, offer, structure or market than the brief described, or a brief that changes after I’ve drafted. A new direction is quoted separately, or billed at the hourly rate below if we agree that.

Extra revision rounds beyond the two included are billed at €70/hour. I’ll tell you before any extra time starts.

4. What I need from you

  • Accurate information about your business, product, claims and audience. You’re responsible for checking that factual, legal and regulatory claims in the final copy are correct for your business and markets (for example health, financial or environmental claims).
  • The right to use anything you send me (existing copy, images, brand documents, customer quotes), and permission to share any third-party data it contains.
  • Feedback within reasonable time. If a project stalls on your side for more than 30 days, I may invoice the work done so far.

5. Copyright

The copy I write for you is my work until it’s paid for. Once you’ve paid in full, the economic rights (the rights to use, reproduce, adapt and publish the copy) in the final deliverables are assigned to you, and I confirm this in writing. Until then, you can use drafts only to review them.

Moral rights (for example, the right to be recognised as the author and to object to distortions of the work) stay with me under the Portuguese Copyright and Related Rights Code (Código do Direito de Autor e dos Direitos Conexos). In practice, I don’t ask to be credited on your website or materials.

Drafts, rejected options and research notes that you don’t receive as final deliverables stay mine.

6. Portfolio

I only show work I’ve done for you (in my portfolio, on this site or anywhere else) if you give me permission in writing. Without it, I don’t mention the project or your name.

7. Confidentiality

Anything you share that isn’t public (plans, figures, launch dates, documents, customer data) I keep confidential. I use it only for your project, and I don’t disclose it unless the law requires it. This continues after the project ends. How I handle personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.

8. How I use AI tools

AI tools may help me with research or with checking (for example, spotting inconsistencies or testing variants of a term). I don’t paste your confidential material into public AI tools without your permission. Every line I deliver is written and edited by me.

9. VAT

VAT exempt under Article 53 of the Portuguese VAT Code (CIVA).

If I become VAT-registered, Portuguese VAT (IVA) will be added to the prices at the applicable rate and shown on the quote. For business clients established in another EU country, the reverse charge generally applies: no Portuguese VAT is charged and you account for the VAT in your own country. Invoices will state this where it applies.

10. Results

I write copy to help you sell and communicate clearly. I can’t promise specific commercial results (sales, rankings, conversion rates, sign-ups). Those depend on your product, pricing, traffic, timing and a lot of things outside my control.

11. Liability

My total liability for a project is limited to the fees you paid me for that project.

This limit doesn’t apply to damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, to death or personal injury, or in any other case where the law doesn’t allow liability to be limited. If you’re a consumer, the limit applies only as far as consumer law allows.

12. Cancellation

  • By you (business clients): you can cancel at any time in writing. I invoice the work done up to that point. The deposit covers work already started and isn’t refunded. If the work done is worth more than the deposit, I invoice the difference.
  • By you (consumers): the rules in section 13 apply first. Outside the withdrawal period, the same principle applies: you pay for the work done up to cancellation.
  • By me: if I have to cancel, I refund any amount you’ve paid for work I haven’t delivered, and I hand over the work done up to that point once it’s been paid for.

13. Consumers: 14-day right of withdrawal

If you’re a consumer and we agree the project at a distance (by email, phone or online), you can withdraw from the contract within 14 days of the day we agree it, without giving a reason (Decree-Law 24/2014).

To withdraw, send me a clear statement by email to hello@globalcopywrite.com or by post to R. da Cruz de Pau 453, 4460-290 Senhora da Hora, Matosinhos, Portugal. You can use the model form below, but you don’t have to. Sending it before the 14 days are up is enough.

Refunds. I refund what you’ve paid within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal, using the same payment method unless we agree otherwise. You won’t pay any fees for the refund.

If you want me to start straight away. I only start work during the 14 days if you ask me to in writing, using this wording (or similar):

I ask you to start the work before the 14-day withdrawal period ends. I understand that if I withdraw, I’ll pay an amount proportional to the work done until I tell you I’m withdrawing, and that I lose my right of withdrawal once the service has been fully performed.

In that case, if you withdraw, you pay only for the work done up to your notice, and I refund the rest.

Model withdrawal form

(Complete and return this form only if you wish to withdraw from the contract.)

14. Complaints and disputes

If something goes wrong, email me first. I’d rather fix it than argue about it. You can also use the electronic Complaints Book at www.livroreclamacoes.pt.

Consumers can refer a dispute to CICAP – Centro de Informação de Consumo e Arbitragem do Porto, Rua Damião de Góis, 31, Loja 6, 4050-225 Porto, cicap@cicap.pt, www.cicap.pt.

15. Governing law and courts

These terms are governed by Portuguese law.

For business clients, the courts of the Porto district (Comarca do Porto) have jurisdiction.

If you’re a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence and your right to bring proceedings in the courts the law allows you to use.

16. Changes

I may update these terms. The version that applies to your project is the one in force when you accepted the quote.
